女性に対する暴力全国委員会は、ジュウグンイアンフの歴史を国の教育カリキュラムに組み込もうと考えている。(The National Commission of Violence against Women is also attempting to include the history of jugun ianfu into the national education curriculum.)
Indonesian Commission of Violence Against Women (Komnas Perempuan) will collaborate with teachers to include the history of jugun ianfu, or ’comfort women’ in school history text books.
The commission hopes that by discussing jugun ianfu as part ofs history lesson at school, it can begin to erase the stigma surrounding women.
“We often invited teachers and students to talk about jugun ianfu. I hope that it will create a snow-ball effect that these teachers and students will transfer their knowledge about jugun ianfu to other people,” a spokesperson for the commission Andy Yentriyani said on Monday (8/16).
The National Commission of Violence against Women is also attempting to include the history of jugun ianfu into the national education curriculum.
“Maybe the history of jugun ianfu will not be taught in a special chapter, but it can be inserted into parts about Japanese colonialism in Indonesia,” Andy Yentriyani said.
Andy Yentriyani hopes that a study of the history of jugun ianfu can help to erase the stigma surrounding these victims of cruelty by Japanese soldiers during the Japanese occupation of Indonesia.
By presenting the facts about jugun ianfu, it will be possible to stop the chain of social violence and discrimination toward these victims, according to Andy Yentriyani.
